Green Stuff World Crackle Paint 60ml – Cracked Earth Texture Effect
🏜️ Green Stuff World – Crackle Paint 60ml
Cracked Earth Texture Paint · 4 Colours · Bases, Terrain & Dioramas
💥 What It Does
A thick, water-based texture paint that shrinks and cracks as it dries, creating a realistic cracked earth, dried mud, or fractured ice pattern. The colour showing through the cracks is whatever you painted underneath. The crackle paint forms the "plates" on top.
Thick layer = big dramatic cracks. Thin layer = fine hairline cracks. One product, many looks.
🎨 Colour Variants
All four work identically — pick the colour that matches your theme:
🛠️ How to Use
1. Paint a base colour underneath — this shows through the cracks (brown, dark red, black, etc.).
2. Apply crackle paint thick, like paste. Straight from the bottle or with a wide brush. Don't thin it.
3. Vary the thickness for a natural look — thicker in some spots, thinner elsewhere.
4. Push it right to the edges of the base — thin spots at the rim shrink away and expose bare primer.
5. Don't touch it while drying. Cracking starts immediately — disturbing it ruins the pattern.
6. Dry naturally overnight. No heat guns, no hair dryers — forced drying damages the effect.
📏 Crack Size Guide
| Very thin | Almost no cracking — waste of product |
| Thin | Fine hairline cracks, subtle effect |
| Medium | Good visible cracks, most versatile |
| Thick | Large dramatic plates — scorched earth look |
⚠️ Good to Know Before You Buy
🔸 Surface prep matters. On bare smooth plastic or just primer, the dried paint can flake off. Best adhesion comes from roughing the surface, applying over gloss varnish, or over textured paint.
🔸 Don't paint it thin. This is the #1 cause of disappointing results. Apply it like paste, not paint.
🔸 No heat drying. Hair dryers and heat guns ruin the cracking effect.
🔸 For gaming armies: seal the finished effect with matte varnish for extra handling durability.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get big cracks vs small cracks?
Thick layers produce large, dramatic plates. Thin layers give fine hairline cracks. Vary the thickness across your base for a natural, uneven terrain look.
Do I need to paint the base first?
Yes — always paint a base colour underneath. This is what shows through the cracks. Without it, you'll see bare plastic or primer in the gaps, which looks unfinished.
Why is my crackle paint flaking off?
Usually poor surface adhesion. Apply over a textured surface, a coat of gloss varnish, or roughened primer rather than bare smooth plastic.
Can I speed up drying with a heat gun?
No — forced heat weakens or destroys the cracking effect. Let it dry naturally at room temperature.
Should I varnish the finished effect?
Optional but recommended for models that get heavy handling (gaming armies). A matte varnish spray adds durability without changing the look.
