Aves Apoxie Sculpt 1.81kg (4lb) Black — Two-Part Epoxy Modelling Compound
About This Product
Aves Apoxie Sculpt is a two-part epoxy compound made by Aves Studio in the USA. Mix equal parts of Part A and Part B together, and you get a smooth, clay-like putty that you can sculpt, shape, texture, and tool for 1–3 hours before it begins to set. After 24 hours it cures into a rock-hard, permanent material with a semi-gloss finish.
It works like modelling clay but bonds like an epoxy — meaning it sticks permanently to most surfaces without needing primer or separate adhesive. Once cured, it can be sanded, drilled, carved, tapped, filed, and painted just like any rigid material.
This is the 1.81 kg (4 lb) tub set in Black. Each set contains one large tub of Part A and one large tub of Part B. The black colour is useful when you want a dark base tone — ideal for terrain, rocky textures, dark creature sculpts, or any project where a black starting point saves painting time.
4 lb Workshop Size — Better Value Per Gram
This is the 1.81 kg (4 lb) tub set — four times the material of the standard 454 g (1 lb) pack at a significantly lower cost per gram. If you already know you love Apoxie Sculpt and use it regularly, or you have a larger project ahead, the 4 lb format saves you money in the long run.
Ideal for terrain builders, workshop regulars, professional modellers, and anyone who goes through sculpting compound steadily. The sealed tubs store well — just keep the lids tight.
Why Choose Black?
◆ Dark terrain and basing — rocks, rubble, cave walls, and dungeon scenery start with a convincing dark tone without needing a black primer coat.
◆ Shadow and depth — sculpted details in recesses naturally read as shadow, giving immediate visual depth even before painting.
◆ Colour mixing — mix Black Part A with any other Apoxie Sculpt Part A colour to create custom dark shades, then add equal Part B to activate.
◆ Less visible residue — on dark models and bases, any small traces of uncured material blend in rather than standing out.

How to Use — Quick Guide
Mix — take equal amounts of Part A and Part B. Knead together thoroughly until the colour is completely uniform with no streaks.
Sculpt — shape, texture, and detail your piece. You have 1–3 hours of working time. The 1-hour mark is often the sweet spot for fine detail.
Smooth — use water on your fingers or tools to smooth surfaces before cure. Cold water helps reduce sticking.
Cure — leave for 24 hours at room temperature. No oven, no UV, no heat needed.
Finish — once cured, sand, drill, carve, or paint as needed. Accepts all hobby paints and primers.
Tips from the Hobby Community
▸ Use cold water to reduce sticking and help hold fine detail while sculpting.
▸ Wear nitrile gloves — especially with Black. The pigment can stain hands, tools, and surfaces if you're not careful.
▸ Wait for the 1-hour mark if you want to add fine details — the material firms up slightly and holds sharper impressions.
▸ Mix only what you need per session — the 4 lb tub gives you plenty of material, but once Parts A and B are combined they will cure in 24 hours. Portion out what you need and reseal the tubs.
▸ Clean tools promptly — black pigment is harder to remove once it sets. Soap and water work while wet; Aves Finishing Solution handles stubborn residue.
▸ Store sealed and cool — old stock can develop a surface film. Keep lids tight for maximum shelf life. The larger tubs store well as long as they stay sealed between sessions.
How Does It Compare?
vs. Green Stuff (Kneadatite)
Apoxie Sculpt gives a much longer working time (1–3 hours vs. ~30 min), smooths more easily with water, and cures rock-hard. Green Stuff stays slightly flexible — better for armour straps, cloaks, organic shapes. Rigid and sandable? Apoxie. Elastic and tough? Green Stuff.
vs. Milliput
Both cure hard and can be sanded. Milliput has a shorter working time and grittier texture. Apoxie Sculpt feels smoother and blends more easily. Milliput is cheaper per gram. Ultra-smooth sculpting? Apoxie. Quick affordable filling? Milliput.
vs. Polymer Clay (Sculpey, FIMO)
Polymer clay needs an oven and doesn't bond to other materials. Apoxie Sculpt cures at room temperature, bonds permanently, and is far more durable. For anything that needs to stick, Apoxie is the better choice.
Good to Know
⚠ It cures rigid. If you need a flexible end result (cloaks, straps, thin parts that flex), Green Stuff or a flexible putty is a better choice.
⚠ Black pigment stains. Coloured Apoxie Sculpt — especially Black — can leave marks on hands, clothing, and work surfaces. Wear gloves and protect your workspace.
⚠ The working time is a strength — and a commitment. Once mixed, Parts A and B will set in 24 hours whether you've finished or not.
⚠ Texture changes during cure. Feels different at 10, 30, and 60 minutes. Normal — many sculptors prefer the firmer stage.
