A mixed natural-and-synthetic watercolour starter set with a thoughtful spread of flats, rounds, specialty brushes, and a wash tool.
This set looks designed as a proper watercolour toolkit rather than a simple beginner sampler. It combines a flat, rigger, pointed sable, sable mix, comber, goat hair, short flat, and dagger, giving the painter a broad range of mark-making options in one package. The inclusion of both traditional natural fibres and synthetic blends helps balance softness, water retention, and precision, which is useful for artists learning how different brushes behave on paper.
The shape variety makes this especially suitable for landscape, botanical, sketchbook, and general watercolour work. The rigger supports thin lines and branches, the dagger adds expressive strokes, the comber helps with texture, and the goat hair brush is useful for washes and blending. Compared with piecing together each brush individually, the set offers a compact and economical way to cover most foundational watercolour tasks. It should appeal to hobby painters who want a practical, versatile set that feels more advanced than a basic starter kit but still approachable.
What makes this brush special
The natural brushes will provide the softer, more absorbent watercolour feel many painters prefer, while the synthetics bring resilience and control. Because the set mixes different constructions, it should feel varied in use but coherent in purpose. Short handles suit table work and sketching, and the overall build is expected to be robust and handmade in character. It is the kind of set that rewards practice by helping the painter compare brush behaviour directly.

How we measure a brushA visual guide to the measurements shown in the size chart above.
These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
Tuft Length
The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
Belly Diameter
The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
Total Length
The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
This mixed set needs a little more attention because the fibres behave differently. For sable and sable-mix brushes, use cool water, clean gently with brush soap, and reshape the tip after washing to preserve the point. Goat hair and other softer natural brushes should also be rinsed thoroughly and never left standing in water. The synthetic and synthetic-blend brushes are more forgiving and can handle slightly warmer water, but they still need prompt cleaning and careful reshaping. Store the set dry, ideally flat or in a roll with the bristles protected, so the dagger, rigger, and pointed brushes do not get bent.
