Rosemary & Co Series 99 — Red Sable Round
- Material
- Red Sable (Natural)
- Shape
- Round
- Handle
- Both
- Best for
- Watercolour, Gouache, Ink, Miniature Paints
Pure red sable pointed round — softer spring and a more generous belly than the Kolinsky Series 33, at a lower price.
What makes this brush special
Pure red sable, not Kolinsky. Softer spring and a larger belly than the Kolinsky Series 33, with strong liquid-holding capacity; the trade-off is a little less snap back to point, at a lower price. Pointed round, sizes 4/0 to 20.
Medium compatibility
Smooth flow for washes, controlled lines and fine points.
Handles opaque water-based paint when thinned to a brush-friendly consistency.
Good for fluid inks; clean promptly after use.
Works well with fluid hobby acrylics for detail, layering and controlled basecoating.
Great for
- Painters who want a soft, paint-hungry sable round without Kolinsky pricing — base coats, glazes and washes where flow matters more than a razor snap. Also suits watercolour and oils where a delicate spring is wanted.
Technique & use
- Detail Work
- Glazing & Blending
- General Painting
Less ideal for
- Painters already perfectly satisfied with Series 33
- Heavy drybrushing or rough use
- Very specific miniature painting — Series 33 has the track record
- Thick paint applications

How we measure a brush
A visual guide to the measurements shown in the size chart above.
These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
- Tuft Length
- The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
- Belly Diameter
- The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
- Total Length
- The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
Treat it like any natural sable brush: rinse fully between colours, wash with a brush soap or conditioner, never leave it standing on its tip in water, and reshape the point before it dries. Store flat or tip-up.
