Kolinsky sable with a natural birch handle. Same proven performance as Series 3, different look.
What makes this brush special
Snap/spring: Good natural snap — hair returns to point reliably after each stroke. Comfortable middle ground for miniature painting.
Flow/release: Smooth, controlled paint release. Good flow for layering and glazing. The kolinsky belly holds paint well and releases it steadily.
Point: Holds a reliable point when wet. Suitable for detail work on 28mm miniatures and smaller.
Belly/reservoir: Appropriate belly for each size class. Size 1 holds enough paint for comfortable layering sessions.
Durability: 1–3 years of regular use with proper care.
Medium compatibility
Smooth flow for washes, controlled lines and fine points.
Best with properly thinned acrylics, especially for detail and glazing.
Handles opaque water-based paint when thinned to a brush-friendly consistency.
Good for fluid inks; clean promptly after use.
Works well with fluid hobby acrylics for detail, layering and controlled basecoating.

- Metallic paints — metallic pigments are abrasive and degrade natural hair, use cheap synthetics
- Heavy stippling or aggressive techniques — natural hair isn't designed for high-impact techniques
- Painters who need hand-selected ultra-fine consistency — premium brands (W&N Series 7, Raphael 8404) exist for that purpose

These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
- Tuft Length
- The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
- Belly Diameter
- The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
- Total Length
- The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
During painting: Rinse frequently, never let paint dry in the ferrule.
After painting: Clean with brush soap (Masters Brush Cleaner or Da Vinci Brush Soap recommended). Reshape tip, store flat or tip-up.
Never: Drybrush, use metallic paints, use hot water, leave standing in water, store tip-down.
Expected lifespan: 1–3 years with proper care.
