Product overview

Old Rust is the very dark brown member of the rust group, suited to aged oxidation, shadowed corrosion and dense deposits where bright orange would read as too recent. The opaque gouache keeps these areas visually heavy while drying to a matt surface. If the placement becomes too strong, the dried paint remains adjustable: introduce tap water with a brush to reopen the layer, then redistribute or remove colour without a solvent.

  • The metal tube contains 20 ml of acrylic weathering gouache.
  • A water-based acrylic binder carries the pigments.
  • Combining it with lighter rust colours creates variation within one corroded area.
  • Works on painted surfaces regardless of whether the paint underneath is acrylic, enamel or oil.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?
