Product overview

Loose earth, sand, gravel and small stones can be secured to bases and dioramas with AK118 Gravel and Sand Fixer. The 100 ml bottle contains an alcohol-based adhesive that is run over arranged groundwork, spreading rapidly through it and being absorbed by the stones and sand. It dries matt, although smooth surfaces may retain a faint satin mark; this can be covered with matt varnish.

  • Scatter the groundwork first, then run the fixer over the completed arrangement.
  • Suitable for application by paintbrush or airbrush.
  • Alcohol is used to clean the product from application equipment.
  • Warm air from a hairdryer or another heat source can accelerate drying.

What do tuft sizes like 2mm, 4mm and 6mm mean?

That's the grass fibre length. 2mm suits small bases and subtle ground cover, 4–6mm reads as fuller vegetation on 28–32mm miniature bases.

Are tufts self-adhesive?

Most modern tufts peel off their sheet with adhesive on the underside — press onto the base, no glue needed. Loose static grass is applied over PVA instead.

How do I apply static grass?

Brush PVA where you want grass, sprinkle or use an applicator, then tip off the excess once dry. An applicator makes fibres stand upright for a more natural look.
