Eight 3rd Generation acrylic colours for aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force (IJAAF) during World War II — carefully researched for accuracy, AK notes, by the author of the "Aviation of Japan" blog. Six of the eight are standard colours for exterior surfaces and two are commonly used interior colours. The subjects run from the Ki-15 Babs, Ki-27 Otsu / Nate and Ki-43 Hayabusa / Oscar through the Ki-30 Ann, Ki-44 Shoki / Tojo, Ki-45 Toryu / Nick, Ki-46 Dinah, Ki-48 Lily, Ki-49 Donryu / Helen and Ki-51 Sonia, to the Ki-61 Hien / Tony, Ki-84 Hayate / Frank and Ki-100.

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
