Product overview

Six bottles for Soviet aircraft used from the 1950s to the late 1970s, and the pack mixes two AK lines: four 17 ml 3rd Generation acrylics for cockpits and other inner surfaces, radomes and wheel hubs, plus two 30 ml Xtreme Metal metallics for the external surfaces. The cockpit guidance is precise: Blue-Grey for the cockpits of the MiG-15, MiG-17, MiG-19 and early MiG-21 variants (F-13 to PF and PFM), while later MiG-21 variants have Torquise/Emerald cockpits — a colour that might also be found in some PFs and PFMs, usually aircraft after overhauls.

  • Set contains (6 items — 4 × 17 ml 3rd Generation acrylics, 2 × 30 ml Xtreme Metal): AK11144 MiG Cockpit Torquise/Emerald, AK11910 MiG Cockpit Blue-Grey (AII Light Blue), AK11919 Radome & Wheel Hub Green, AK11859 Interior Yellow Green, AK479 Aluminium (Xtreme Metal), AK480 Dark Aluminium (Xtreme Metal)
  • Two finishes in one pack: the four 3GEN bottles are matt acrylics, the two Xtreme Metal bottles are high-sheen metallics — no single finish describes the set
  • The Blue-Grey is a paint we have met before: AK's own parenthesis — "MiG Cockpit Blue-Grey (AII Light Blue)" — bridges it to the AII Light Blue in Soviet Aircraft Colors 1930s-1941 (AK11740), the one bottle these two sets share
  • Acrylic colours for brush; for airbrush, dilute with water or AK11500 thinner
  • The pack carries AK's printed "Scale Reduction Factor" mark, as on the rest of the 3GEN AIR range
  • Made by AK Interactive S.L. in Logroño, Spain

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
