Green Stuff World Basing Cork Grit — Thick (200ml)

Natural cork granules for rock, rubble, ballast and broken ground on miniature bases, wargaming terrain and dioramas. This is the coarse Thick grade — chunky pieces for boulders and heavy debris. 200ml tub.

Why hobbyists use cork grit

  • Feather-light terrain — rocky texture and bulk without the weight of real stone, so bases stay balanced.
  • Coarse Thick grade — the largest granules in the range, for boulders, rubble piles and broken rock.
  • Soaks up glue & paint — the porous surface drinks PVA, washes and varnish, grabbing colour and holding firm.
  • One tub, many looks — dirt, debris, rubble, railway ballast, desert rock or ruined ground.
  • Natural irregular shapes — reads as real broken stone, not a moulded pattern.

About Basing Cork Grit

Basing Cork Grit is fragments of natural cork used to replicate rock, rubble, dirt, debris and ballast. It's one of the quickest ways to break up a flat base: brush on PVA, sprinkle the cork, seal it, and you have instant rocky groundwork ready to paint. This Thick grade gives you larger chunks for collapsed masonry and heavy rubble. Green Stuff World also make Fine (roughly 0.5–2mm) and Medium grades — many hobbyists mix grades on one base for a natural range of debris sizes.

How to use it

Spread PVA (or watered-down PVA) over the base and press or sprinkle the cork into it, then tip off the excess. Seal with a second thin coat of watered PVA or brush-on varnish to lock every piece in place. Cork takes spray primer, brush and airbrush well — basecoat dark, then drybrush up through greys or earth tones to pop the texture. A dark wash sinks into the porous cork and shades the recesses automatically for instant weathering.

Good to know

This is the coarse grade — chunky pieces for rock and rubble. For fine sand or smooth gritty ground, choose the Fine or Medium grade (or mix them in). As a natural product, granule sizes vary within the tub — that variation is what makes it read as real broken ground. Cork is light and porous, so always seal it after gluing for table durability.
