Vallejo Metal Color Steel 77.712 is a cool steel-toned, water-based metallic containing aluminium pigments. It is formulated primarily for airbrush work on scale models, producing a reflective, self-levelling coat for steel surfaces and components without requiring an enamel or lacquer metallic. The paint can also be applied with a brush for smaller areas. Each 32 ml bottle uses an eyedropper closure for controlled dispensing and contains a stainless steel ball to assist mixing.
- Suitable for direct airbrush application or dilution with Vallejo Airbrush Thinner or Flow Improver.
- Recommended operating pressure: 15–20 PSI / 0.5–1 kg.
- Adheres to plastic and metal surfaces.
- Dries quickly, but requires 12 hours before masking.
- Vallejo Gloss Black Primer is recommended as an aircraft undercoat.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
