Vallejo Pigment FX Mud & Sand Set contains four 35 ml pots of dry, unbound pigment for sand and mud effects on models and dioramas. Vallejo describes these pigments as originating from iron oxides and natural earths. They may be worked onto the surface dry with a brush, fixed after placement with a few drops of Airbrush Thinner, or combined with the thinner to vary the density of the mixture. Vallejo also describes using Pigment Binder where added volume, accumulations or blended transitions are required.
Each pigment comes in a 35 ml pot with a childproof top; Vallejo states that fill weight varies by pigment
A step-by-step guide by Chema Cabrero is included for creating sand and mud effects
Airbrush Thinner and Pigment Binder are application aids recommended by Vallejo; neither is included in the set
73.104 Light Sienna is also included in Stone & Cement, and 73.113 Light Slate Grey in Soot & Ashes

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
