Pure red sable pointed round — softer spring and a more generous belly than the Kolinsky Series 33, at a lower price.
Series 99 is Rosemary & Co's pure red sable pointed round. The red sable hair carries a generous belly of paint and gives a soft, springy stroke that flows and releases like a fountain pen. It is not Kolinsky: where the Series 33 is firmer and dearer, the 99 trades a little snap for softness and a lower price. The range runs 4/0 to 20.
What makes this brush special
Pure red sable, not Kolinsky. Softer spring and a larger belly than the Kolinsky Series 33, with strong liquid-holding capacity; the trade-off is a little less snap back to point, at a lower price. Pointed round, sizes 4/0 to 20.
Medium compatibility
Watercolour
Smooth flow for washes, controlled lines and fine points.
Gouache
Handles opaque water-based paint when thinned to a brush-friendly consistency.
Ink
Good for fluid inks; clean promptly after use.
Miniature Paints
Works well with fluid hobby acrylics for detail, layering and controlled basecoating.
Great for
Painters who want a soft, paint-hungry sable round without Kolinsky pricing — base coats, glazes and washes where flow matters more than a razor snap. Also suits watercolour and oils where a delicate spring is wanted.

Brush sizes are not standardised across brands — a Size 1 from one maker may differ from another. These brushes are handcrafted, so individual dimensions may vary by 1–2 mm.
How we measure a brushA visual guide to the measurements shown in the size chart above.
These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
Tuft Length
The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
Belly Diameter
The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
Total Length
The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
Treat it like any natural sable brush: rinse fully between colours, wash with a brush soap or conditioner, never leave it standing on its tip in water, and reshape the point before it dries. Store flat or tip-up.
