Series 230 is Rosemary & Co’s short-handle Golden Synthetic mini rigger, designed as an extra-fine detail brush and sold only in 10/0 for balance. Rosemary describes the fibre as “Golden Synthetic,” with excellent retention, snap, and spring, and positions it as a vegan-friendly alternative to sable for very fine line work. It is especially associated with miniature painting, hair, and delicate line control, while also being suitable for watercolour, oils, acrylics, water-mixable oils, and gouache. The brush sits in the affordable specialist-detail category where precision matters more than large paint capacity. Compared with sable riggers, it will usually feel a little firmer and more controlled, with less natural reservoir but better durability and easier cleaning. That makes it a practical choice for repetitive line work and hobby use.
What makes this brush special
This brush feels crisp rather than plush. The synthetic fibre gives it a defined spring, so it rebounds quickly after a stroke and helps keep lines narrow and controlled. It does not hold as much paint as a natural-hair rigger, but it releases paint predictably, which is useful when tracking long, thin marks. How to care for your brush
Rinse promptly after use with clean lukewarm water, then wash gently with a mild brush soap or artist brush cleaner. Avoid hot water, which can weaken the ferrule adhesive over time, and do not leave the tip standing in water. Reshape the point after cleaning and store the brush flat or upright with the bristles dry and protected. Although it is synthetic and more forgiving than sable, avoid harsh solvents unless the brush is specifically being used for solvent-compatible mediums.
