The DSPIAE ES-A PRO is the upgraded rechargeable sanding pen for modellers who want more speed and pressure from the same straight reciprocating action. Its Moon Dust grey body is anodised aluminium, and silicon sandpaper mounts onto interchangeable clip-in heads. The extra cost adds a 5400 rpm top gear and operation while plugged in, although its unplugged running time is shorter.
- The three speed settings are 4100, 4500 and 5400 rpm.
- Head travel remains a 2.5 mm straight stroke.
- Maximum pressure across the gears is 350, 420 and 480 g.
- A full charge takes about 25 minutes and provides roughly 80 minutes of unloaded use.
- The silicon paper selection extends to #1200.
- An overload chip cuts power if the tool is forced beyond its working load.

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?
Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.
Which grit should I start with on mould lines?
For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.
Should I file wet or dry?
Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.
How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?
Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
