Product overview

The 35 ml AK301 Dark Wash for Wood Decks is a Naval Series enamel wash that emphasises planking and fittings on wooden ship decks. It can also be used on other wooden subjects. Before application, paint the deck in its base colour and cover it with a satin or gloss varnish; the smoother surface helps the wash enter the divisions between planks.

  • Shake well, then brush the wash across the deck so it reaches the recessed detail.
  • Use AK011 White Spirit to remove excess while retaining darker areas beside structural edges and gun positions.
  • White Spirit or Odourless Turpentine may be used to dissolve and adjust the enamel.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Do I need a primer?
