Warhammer Base Size Reference Guide - 3 popular miniature wargames in one guide

Are you a hobbyist who loves playing tabletop Wargames like Warhammer 40 000, Age of Sigmar, and Warhammer Fantasy Battle?

If so, then we have some amazing resources for you!

Miniature Wargames can be incredibly rewarding and engaging. However, many hobbyists have a difficult time navigating all of the rules, references, and other details necessary to build compelling models and armies. One of the main problems is finding and matching the right size and shape of the base to the model. The knowledge on these topics is very scattered and searching for it is time-consuming and often simply tedious.

To help simplify things for novice enthusiasts and experienced players alike, we’ve created a reference guide that provides a detailed overview of base sizes used in both Warhammer 40k, AOS (Ages Of Sigmar) models as well as WFB (Warhammer Fantasy Battle).

Our guides are regularly updated to make sure hobbyists can easily find information on any model's base size they may be looking for! Not only do these reference guides help new players quickly navigate their way through building their collections, but advanced collectors can use them to double-check details like base measurements before making a purchase.

Warhammer 40 000 Bases Reference Guide

Warhammer 40k is one of the oldest wargames (next to Battletech). The history of the game is long and eventful, and the basing system has also undergone significant changes over time, such as the move from 25 to 32mm round bases and the recent addition of 28mm standard bases.

At the moment the system uses plain ROUND bases and OVAL bases and you can see them below.

Age of Sigmar Bases Reference Guide

AOS stands for Age of Sigmar, the game that is the spiritual successor to Warhammer Fantasy Battle.

The game has undergone a huge metamorphosis in comparison to its predecessor. First and foremost, however, the square and rectangular bases system used in the WFB was changed to the round and oval sizes used in Warhammer 40,000.

This setting, thanks to its simplified rules and smaller financial outlay necessary for a competitive game, has gained a loyal crowd of fans.

AOS today has very stable rules for bases, and the manufacturer also makes the bases reference sheet available to the public.

Warhammer Fantasy Battle Bases Reference Guide

WFB or Warhammer Fantasy Battle is one of the first Miniature Wargames (1983-2015) developed by Games Workshop.

The setting was officially killed off in 2015 and replaced by AOS, but there is still a loyal fan base playing their skirmishes and battles using the 6th and 8th edition rules.

To this day, the setting remains quite popular despite the lack of publisher support.

The same base dimensions are also used in 9TH age, a competitive and completely free setting developed by hobbyists.

Wow, what an amazing resource! I can’t tell you the amount of models i re-base and never 100% know what size they need and end up spending a decent amount of time searching if this certain Space Marine is on the correct size base. I will be using this guide whenever i intend to re-base something, which is quite often. Its also fantastic that i can also buy the bases that i need at an incredible price! Great work HobbyHeaven!
