The Kolinsky sable, the former name for the Siberian mink, is a species that lives in Northern Russia and China. Its fur has incomparable spring, elasticity and vigour. With its single flag, this tawny golden red fiber is ideal for fine, precise work. With their fine tips, Kolinksy brushes are ideal for graphic work and final touches to watercolours or ink drawings, and have a great shape retention memory. The fibers on this iconic brush have at times seen their price exceed that of gold during the course of history. With nickel brass ferrule and short black varnished handle.

Media: Watercolour
Usage: Details, contorus and touch-ups

Better than W&S7

I have tried all the others but keep coming back to the 8314's. Why? Well it seems that no matter how gentle my technique, how clean I keep my brush or which techniques I avoid using them for my other brushes always split, fray and leave me feeling ripped off. My 10 year old 8413 however is always there to provide a sharp point, good paint holding and the easiest of edge highlights. Unlike typical miniature paint brushes the 8413 has longer and slightly thinner (total) bristles, which for me, seems to provide a little more flex to my stroke and prevents the brush from losing its shape. If you too suffer from expensive brushes giving you the splits or fraying you right off, give the 8413 a try and you just mind find a true long-term painting partner.
My purchase was for size 3, 2 & 1 brushes and comparable W&S sizes would be 2, 1, 0 as the 8413's run a bit smaller due to narrow brush heads. I strongly encourage giving the size 2 a try as it still has a point capable of rivets and eyes
