On a clear coat or transparent plastic part, this is where the aim shifts from correcting obvious abrasion to reducing the traces left by the earlier stage. Its thin film format follows the working face without introducing a foam layer, and the evenly distributed abrasive helps keep the result consistent across the area being treated.

Sprue cutters or a hobby knife — what do I actually need?

Cutters remove parts from the sprue cleanly; the knife trims the leftover nub and mould lines. You'll want both — they do different jobs.
