Tamiya 87198 is an additive for brush-painting lacquer colours rather than a general-purpose thinner. It slows the drying process so the coating has more time to level, reducing visible brush marks and supporting a smoother gloss surface. The addition rate is limited: mix no more than one part retarder to ten parts paint. This controlled delay is intended specifically for improving brushed lacquer finishes.
Intended for brush application of lacquer paints.
Maximum mixing ratio is 1:10, retarder to paint.
Slower drying helps minimise irregularities left by brush bristles.
Supports a smooth, lustrous painted surface.

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
