Product overview

The orange DSPIAE PT-SP04 carries 400-grit paper through the general clean-up stage between coarse shaping and later polishing. Its reusable acrylic faces stay rigid and flat while a self-adhesive abrasive strip provides the working surface. The 400 grade removes marks left by the coarser pass without being positioned as the final polishing step.

  • Backing widths are 5 mm, 10 mm and 25 mm; every one is 2.5 mm thick.
  • Laser-cut outlines are manually polished to leave smooth edges.
  • Orange colour and a printed 400 replace a separate grit-identification sticker.
  • The 25 mm face supports flat kit surfaces, while narrower pads work beside panel lines or inside recesses.

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?

Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.

Which grit should I start with on mould lines?

For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.

Should I file wet or dry?

Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.

How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?

Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
