AK174 Photoetch Burnishing is a 100 ml fluid for darkening brass photoetched parts, machine-gun barrels and tank barrels. On brass it can produce an appearance similar to steel, while treating the polished metal also prepares it for later painting. The reaction is judged by the visible colour change rather than a stated number of minutes.

Separate the parts, immerse them in acetone and brush away grease or dirt.
After drying, lower the brass into the burnishing liquid with tweezers.
Work the fluid into corners and crevices using a brush.
Let it react for some minutes, removing the parts once they have darkened.
Polishing afterwards can produce a metallic-grey appearance.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?
