Product overview

Built for dry European-weathering work, AK015 Dust Effects is a 35 ml enamel liquid for laying pale dust over a vehicle’s running gear and lower surfaces. It can be kept as a thin, blended layer or given more physical body by mixing it with plaster. The result is suited to dust on wheels, tracks and hull areas rather than wet mud or general earth staining.

  • Apply with a brush or airbrush, depending on the coverage required.
  • Target wheels, tracks and the lower hull where road dust collects.
  • Feather the application with a wide flat brush dampened with AK011 White Spirit.
  • Combine with plaster when a raised, more substantial deposit is needed.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
