Product overview

Decay & Abandoned Weathering Set is a three-jar blister aimed, in AK's words, at models that recreate the appearance of abandonment and decay. It is a mixed box rather than an all-enamel one: two enamel deposits plus one powder pigment. AK's Decay Deposit was developed to give a worn and faded appearance on the surface of abandoned objects, vehicles or buildings; the Moss Deposit is a textured deposit for moss, lichen or any other green organic growth; and AK148 Faded Green is an ultrafine pigment that can be applied dry or wet. AK files the set across its widest subject spread — AFV, aircraft, civil, diorama, military, naval, sci-fi, train and wargame. All three jars are stocked by us separately as singles.

  • Set contains (3 × 35 ml): AK675 Decay Deposit, AK676 Moss Deposit and AK148 Faded Green Pigment
  • A mixed box: the two deposits are enamels, while AK148 is an ultrafine powder pigment — so this is not an all-enamel blister
  • AK on the Decay Deposit: developed to give "a worn and faded appearance on the surface of abandoned objects, vehicles or buildings"
  • AK on the Moss Deposit: a textured deposit for "moss, lichen or any other green organic growth"
  • AK's guidance for the pigment: apply it dry or wet — mix it with Pigment Fixer or White Spirit to apply it wet, or fix a dry application in place with either
  • AK's Theme attribute spans AFV, aircraft, civil, diorama, military, naval, sci-fi, train and wargame subjects

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
