Product overview
A water-based medium for creating realistic paint-chipping and weathering effects on miniatures and scale models. It works like the hairspray technique without the mess: apply a base colour, coat with Chipping Medium, paint a top colour over it, then use a damp stiff brush to lift the top layer and reveal the base colour beneath. Thicker application produces larger chips; a thinner coat gives finer scratches.
- Brush or airbrush application — allow approximately 30 minutes to dry before applying the top coat
- Chip by dampening the surface with water and stippling or scrubbing with a stiff flat brush, cotton bud or toothpick
- Safe to mask over — the dried medium does not lift when removing tape
- Seal the finished effect with varnish before applying washes or filters
- Water-based, low odour, water cleanup

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
