Product overview

Tamiya X-22 Clear is a 10 ml gloss clear coat that adds a lustrous protective finish over painted surfaces. Apply it as a final coat to deepen colour, protect decals and produce a uniform gloss across a completed model. It can also serve as a base for applying decals, where a smooth, sealed surface is needed before the decal softener step.

  • Colour designation X-22 Clear — a colourless gloss clear coat.
  • Water-soluble acrylic resin; thins and cleans up with water.
  • Apply over finished paint by brush or airbrush for a glossy protective layer.
  • Compatible with styrene, styrofoam, wood and standard model plastics.
  • Supplied in a 10 ml glass jar — Tamiya item 81522.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
