Set 35 is Rosemary & Co's answer to the question every plein air painter eventually asks: which brushes do I actually need when I'm travelling light?
Four pocket brushes, four different head shapes — a pointed round in pure Kolinsky sable, a designer pointed in sable blend, a dagger in sable/nylon blend and a short flat in Red Dot synthetic. Between them you can lay a wash, draw a line, cut a leaf and block in a sky.
Each brush uses a reversible pocket handle that closes to about 105 mm for safe storage and opens to 185 mm when you're ready to paint — long enough for comfortable, balanced strokes.
What makes this brush special
The set covers four core brush shapes chosen for versatility on location. The Kolinsky pointed round (R1 size 6) handles drawing, detail and controlled washes. The sable blend designer pointed (R13 size 8) fills a similar role with a slightly larger belly. The dagger (R12 1/4") makes expressive marks, foliage and calligraphic strokes. The Red Dot flat (R20 size 5) blocks in skies, buildings and broad washes. All four close into their own handles for protection.

How we measure a brush

- Tuft Length
- The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
- Belly Diameter
- The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
- Total Length
- The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
Let brushes dry thoroughly before closing — trapping moisture inside the cap can soften natural hair over time. Rinse in clean water after each session, reshape the point and store with the cap off until fully dry. Only screw the cap on for transport.
