Pure sable round. Quality natural hair at accessible pricing for general brush painting.
The Rosemary & Co Series 401 is a pure sable round brush — not Kolinsky, but quality natural sable hair that offers good performance at a more accessible price than Kolinsky ranges. Pure sable gives much of the softness, flow, and point retention of Kolinsky but with slightly less spring and durability.
For painters who want natural hair quality without Kolinsky pricing, or who need reliable sable brushes for regular use where Kolinsky feels like overkill, Series 401 provides excellent value. The Yorkshire craftsmanship is the same as Rosemary & Co's premium ranges.

How we measure a brushA visual guide to the measurements shown in the size chart above.
These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
Tuft Length
The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
Belly Diameter
The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
Total Length
The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
Same care as Kolinsky: rinse, clean, reshape, store protected. Natural sable is slightly more delicate than Kolinsky and benefits from gentle handling and regular brush soap conditioning.
