Product Information

About This Product

Aves Finishing Solution is a liquid smoothing and finishing aid made by Aves Studio in the USA. Formerly known as Safety Solvent, it is designed to smooth, blend, and refine the surface of Aves epoxy compounds — including Apoxie Sculpt, Super White Apoxie, Apoxie Clay, and Apoxie Paste — while they are still in the uncured working phase.

Apply it with a brush, cotton bud, or soft cloth to smooth out fingerprints, tool marks, and surface imperfections before the compound cures. It can also be used to clean uncured epoxy from tools, hands (with gloves), and work surfaces.

This is the 1 oz (approx. 30 ml) bottle — a small, long-lasting quantity. A little goes a long way since you only need a small amount per application.

What Does It Do?

Smooth Surfaces

Brush or wipe onto uncured Apoxie Sculpt to smooth fingerprints, tool marks, and imperfections before it hardens.

Blend Seams

Soften and feather the edges where new epoxy meets existing surfaces for seamless transitions.

Clean Tools

Remove uncured epoxy residue from sculpting tools, brushes, and work surfaces before it sets permanently.

Refine Detail

Apply with a fine brush to sharpen edges, clean up fine details, and achieve a polished finish before cure.

Compatible With

Apoxie Sculpt — all 12 colours, all sizes

Super White Apoxie

Apoxie Clay

Apoxie Paste

Fixit Paste

How to Use

1

Sculpt first — work your Apoxie Sculpt (or other Aves compound) into shape using your normal tools and techniques.

2

Apply sparingly — dip a brush, cotton bud, or soft cloth into a small amount of Finishing Solution. You need very little — a drop or two at a time.

3

Smooth and blend — gently wipe or brush the solution across the uncured surface. Fingerprints, tool lines, and rough areas smooth out on contact.

4

Clean up — use Finishing Solution on a cloth to wipe uncured epoxy residue from tools and surfaces before it sets.

5

Let cure — once you're happy with the surface, leave the compound to cure as normal (24 hours).

Tips from the Hobby Community

Less is more — too much solution will over-soften the surface. Start with a tiny amount and add more only if needed.

Water works too — for basic smoothing, plain water is often enough. Finishing Solution is most useful for stubborn marks, tight areas, final polish, and tool cleaning.

Use a fine brush for detail work — a small flat or filbert brush gives you precise control over smoothing in tight areas and along edges.

Clean tools before cure — a wipe with Finishing Solution removes uncured Apoxie Sculpt from metal and silicone tools far more effectively than water alone.

Wear nitrile gloves — as with all Aves products, gloves are recommended during use.

1 oz lasts a long time — you only use drops at a time. Even regular users find a single bottle lasts through many projects.

Good to Know

Only works on uncured epoxy. Once Aves compounds have fully cured (24 hours), Finishing Solution has no effect. Use it during the working phase only.

Formerly called "Safety Solvent." Aves renamed this product, but the formula is the same. If you've used Safety Solvent before, this is the same product.

Not a general-purpose solvent. Finishing Solution is specifically formulated for Aves epoxy compounds. It is not intended for cleaning other brands of epoxy, resin, or putty.

Use in a ventilated area. As with any liquid finishing product, work in a space with good airflow.

Which glue should I use for plastic, resin or metal?

Plastic cement welds polystyrene kits; resin and metal don't react to cement, so use super glue (CA). PVA is for basing materials only.

Green Stuff or Milliput — which putty?

Green Stuff stays slightly flexible and holds fine sculpted detail; Milliput cures rock-hard and sands smooth, ideal for gap filling. Many modellers mix the two.

How long does epoxy putty take to cure?

Workable for roughly 60–90 minutes, fully cured in about 24 hours at room temperature — check each product's description for exact times.
