Product overview

AK617 Weathering Plaster Base is a 100 ml plaster paste for giving mud, earth, dust and soil mixtures extra body. It is not a standalone terrain colour; blend it into a Nature Effects product, then adjust the consistency to suit the application. Add white spirit if the mix is too thick, or more plaster when it needs greater density.

  • Brush the prepared mixture directly over diorama groundwork.
  • For vehicle splashes, load a paintbrush and direct short airbrush bursts across it.
  • The paste can add volume to mud, earth, dust or soil effects.

What do tuft sizes like 2mm, 4mm and 6mm mean?

That's the grass fibre length. 2mm suits small bases and subtle ground cover, 4–6mm reads as fuller vegetation on 28–32mm miniature bases.

Are tufts self-adhesive?

Most modern tufts peel off their sheet with adhesive on the underside — press onto the base, no glue needed. Loose static grass is applied over PVA instead.

How do I apply static grass?

Brush PVA where you want grass, sprinkle or use an applicator, then tip off the excess once dry. An applicator makes fibres stand upright for a more natural look.
