Product overview
AK183 Ultra Matte Varnish is a 60 ml acrylic auxiliary for producing a dead-flat finish across a model's surface. Its formula is water-soluble, odourless and non-toxic, with application possible by hand or spray equipment. It is specifically formulated to perform through an airbrush while remaining suitable for conventional brushing.
- Spread the varnish directly with a brush or atomise it using an airbrush.
- Agitate the bottle before every application so the contents are thoroughly mixed.
- Use AK712 Acrylic Thinner when reduction is necessary.
- Complete drying requires 12 hours from application.
- The cured result removes visible sheen from the coated surface.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
