Ships Weathering Set Vol.1 is a three-jar blister of AK's 35 ml enamel weathering products for ships of any scale, military or civil, as AK's own text puts it. The three jars are named for their targets: Wash for Grey Decks, Grey Wash for Kriegsmarine Ships, and Brown Streaking Grime for Red Hulls — the last of these for streaking dirt on hulls painted in red primer, per AK. AK describes both grey washes as bringing out the details in grey warships of many navies — the Kriegsmarine, United States Navy or Imperial Japanese Navy — and says they also work on grey aircraft or tanks. All three jars are enamels, stocked by us separately as singles.

Set contains (3 × 35 ml): AK302 Wash for Grey Decks, AK303 Grey Wash for Kriegsmarine Ships and AK304 Brown Streaking Grime for Red Hulls
AK's method for the grey washes: shake the bottle, apply with a large brush to pick out details and create shadows, then remove the excess with a clean brush and White Spirit
AK's method for the red-hull jar: streak with a fine brush in irregular vertical lines, let it dry for about ten minutes, then soften with a flat brush moistened in White Spirit

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
