Product overview

Aircraft exhausts are prone areas for rust and dirt accumulation, and this five-piece weathering set from AK Interactive's Air series concentrates on exactly that staining. Four 35 ml pigments — Smoke, Burnt Jet Engine, Dark Rust and Ocher Rust — and a 35 ml enamel Exhaust Wash give many different finishes for the exhausts of aircraft in all eras, per AK's description. The box states the pigments and wash are specially formulated and tested to apply over aircraft colours, and carries a shake-well notice. Every one of the five items is stocked by us separately.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
