At the middle of the three triangular sizes, Tamiya 87106 Small balances tip precision against working surface. The pointed cotton head can follow a panel line or sit into a recess, while its slightly wider face carries enough fluid to clean or adjust a broader stroke in one pass. Cotton is wound firmly to resist fraying, and the triangular cross-section gives three usable edges before the swab is spent. Each pack contains 50 swabs.

Sprue cutters or a hobby knife — what do I actually need?

Cutters remove parts from the sprue cleanly; the knife trims the leftover nub and mould lines. You'll want both — they do different jobs.
