- Best for
- Watercolour, Miniature Paints, Gouache, Ink, Oil, Acrylic
Pure Kolinsky sable at outstanding value. Soft flow, generous belly, made in Yorkshire.
What makes this brush special
Softer, more flowing feel than Raphael 8404 or W&N Series 7. Generous belly with excellent paint capacity. Good point retention — not quite as crisp as Series 7 but very reliable. Outstanding value for money makes it easy to maintain a full set of sizes. The "sensible choice" for painters who want Kolinsky quality without the premium price.
Medium compatibility
Smooth flow for washes, controlled lines and fine points.
Works well with fluid hobby acrylics for detail, layering and controlled basecoating.
Handles opaque water-based paint when thinned to a brush-friendly consistency.
Good for fluid inks; clean promptly after use.
Best with properly thinned acrylics, especially for detail and glazing.
Great for
- All-round miniature painting at outstanding value
- Glazing and blending where soft flow helps create smooth transitions
- Building a full size range without breaking the budget
- Painters transitioning from synthetic to natural sable for the first time

Less ideal for
- Painters who prefer very firm, crisp brush response

How we measure a brush
A visual guide to the measurements shown in the size chart above.
These are the same measurements shown in the size chart above. Brush sizes are not standardised across brands, so use these dimensions when comparing brushes within a series or between manufacturers.
- Tuft Length
- The visible length of the brush hairs, measured from the ferrule to the tip.
- Belly Diameter
- The widest point of the brush head. On round brushes, this is the widest part of the belly.
- Total Length
- The full measurement from the tip of the brush to the end of the handle.
How to care for your brush
Clean with lukewarm water after each session. Use brush soap periodically. Reshape the point gently after washing. Store horizontally or tip-down in a brush case. Avoid metallic paints and harsh solvents. Rosemary & Co brushes respond well to regular conditioning with brush soap, which helps maintain the soft flow character. Expect 2-4 years with regular use and proper care.
