Product overview

The ES-P is DSPIAE's cordless rotary sanding pen. It spins a grinding head, unlike the reciprocating DSPIAE ES-A, so it smooths surfaces, drills holes for battle damage and reshapes parts. One button cycles three speeds, 5000, 10000 and 18000 r/min, then off. It takes 3 mm shank heads, clamped 25 mm deep with the supplied hex wrench, which stows in the pen. Lights show battery, speed and load; on overload it cuts the power after 2 seconds.

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?

Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.

Which grit should I start with on mould lines?

For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.

Should I file wet or dry?

Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.

How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?

Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
