Product overview

The Blazing Red DSPIAE AS-RD25 gives you three identical 25 mm backing boards for keeping several sandpaper grades ready on broad, flat work. Their rigid faces bridge seams instead of dipping into them, helping hull sides and wing roots stay level during sanding. Each board is 2 mm thick, has no abrasive coating of its own, and requires self-adhesive sandpaper bought separately.

  • Each board is machined from one piece of aluminium alloy, then sandblasted and anodised.
  • The treated face allows a used strip to peel away with minimal visible adhesive residue.
  • A full-width DSPIAE SP-series sheet fits the 25 mm surface directly without trimming.
  • Included grit-identification stickers run from 180# through 2500# and label the paper fitted to each board.
  • Waterproof, corrosion-resistant treatment allows the boards to be used for wet-sanding.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?

Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.

Which grit should I start with on mould lines?

For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.

Should I file wet or dry?

Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.

How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?

Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
