AK10039–AK10046 divide the Weathering Pencils range into eight themed sets, each containing five watercolour pencils for a related group of modelling effects. Their semi-grease, water-based leads can make direct dry marks or be worked wet and blended with a damp brush. They perform most effectively over matt surfaces, which accept the pencil material more readily. Selecting a variant provides a coordinated group for shading, corrosion, chipping, dirt, camouflage or metallic detail.

AK10039 Black & White covers winter camouflage and tonal shading; AK10040 Green & Brown groups moss, mud and vegetation colours.
AK10041 Rust & Streaking supplies graduated rust tones; AK10042 Chipping & Aging includes colours for worn wood, exposed primer and dark metal.
AK10043 Grey & Blue supports cool shading and aircraft effects; AK10044 Dirt & Marks covers dust, concrete and dirt streaks.
AK10045 contains five basic colours for general use, while AK10046 brings together aluminium, gold, bronze, copper and dark aluminium.
Each pencil measures 17 cm long.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
