Product overview

Engines and bare metal weather differently from hulls, and this five-piece weathering set holds everything AK considers necessary for realistic effects on any type of engine or metal object, tank tracks included. Three 35 ml enamels — Engine Grime, Track Wash and Fresh Engine Oil — cover dirt, grease and rusting metal, while two 35 ml pigments finish the work: a dark rust and Dark Steel, which AK's set description calls a super metal coloured pigment with no equal on the market. The box prints 35ml 5 jars and no series badge. Every one of the five jars is stocked by us separately.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
