About the wet palette

A wet palette keeps acrylic paint moist and workable far longer than an ordinary palette. Water held in a sponge passes up through a semi-permeable paper, so the paint on the surface stays at a usable consistency — ideal for blending, layering and wet-on-wet work, and for cutting down the paint you throw away.

This is Vallejo’s Painter Size palette. The case is high-strength ABS with a rubber seal between base and lid for a genuinely airtight close, non-slip rubber pads underneath for stability, and a lid that stows under the base to save desk space. The lid can also be used as a second palette, and carries magnets on both sides to mount the included Well Palette.

It comes with two reusable PVA hydration sponges, thirty sheets of moisture paper and an elastic band that seals the palette shut for transport — so it travels to a club night as happily as it sits on your bench.

Getting the most from it

◆  Lay the paper matte-side down onto the sponge and paint on the satin side — that’s the way moisture transfers best.

◆  Keep the sponge damp, not flooded — too much water over-thins your paint.

◆  Close the lid between sessions and your mixes can stay usable for days.

◆  Use the magnetic Well Palette for thinning or batch-mixing, and the lid as a second mixing surface.

◆  Rinse and reuse the PVA sponges; the papers are consumable, so keep a few spare for longer sessions.
