X-1 Black is the gloss black of Tamiya's acrylic range, here in the 10ml Acrylic Paint Mini jar (item 81501). Tamiya make these paints from water-soluble acrylic resins and intend them for brush and spray work alike, so one jar serves for hand-painted details and for airbrushed coats. It goes onto styrene, styrofoam, wood and all the common model plastics, covers well, flows smoothly without blushing or fading, and blends easily with other colours. If you also use Tamiya's other paint systems, the same black is X-1 in the enamels, LP-1 in the lacquers and TS-14 in the spray cans.

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.

Excellent for Airbrushing
Excellent paint for airbrushing but will need thinning to a milky consistency. I try and keep to the paint manufacturer’s thinner, in this case, Tamiya X-20A. I would thoroughly recommend this range of paints.
