Product overview

Gaahleri's TurboX Mini from the Ambition Series is a desktop airbrush compressor about 14 × 10 cm across and 0.6 kg, with a digital display that reads out the current pressure, in your choice of psi or bar, next to the unit's temperature. Press the dial to step through Low, Medium and High presets, or turn it for fine adjustment over 18 levels. The rated range runs from 8 to 36 psi, and Gaahleri gives a stable working pressure of 10–20 psi depending on the airbrush. A switch on the back selects Standard mode or a low-pressure Compatibility mode that evens out the airflow for fine-detail spraying.

  • Warns at 85 °C, shuts down at 90 °C
  • 4 mm reinforced casing, 48 dB or less at 1 m
  • 18 litres per minute, 1/8" BSP outlet
  • Comes with hose, airbrush holder, adapter and manual

Notes · Q & A

What nozzle size do I need for miniatures?

0.3mm is the versatile all-rounder for base coats and priming; 0.2mm suits fine detail work. Larger nozzles (0.5mm) are for terrain and big surfaces.

Do I need a compressor with a tank?

A tank smooths the airflow and reduces pulsing, giving more consistent results — worth it if you spray regularly, but tankless compressors work fine for occasional use.

How do I keep an airbrush working well?

Flush with airbrush cleaner between colours and strip-clean after each session. Most spraying problems are cleaning problems.

What a Cracker

What a cracking little compressor. I would certainly recommend that it is used by trial and error before spraying anything in earnest. Once you get used to it, with the correct pressure, paint consistency and distance it’s as good as a much larger unit. I mainly use it to weather model locomotives and rolling stock and have been more than pleased with the results.
