Product overview

The green DSPIAE PT-SP15 carries the finest grade offered in this acrylic-pad range. Its 1500-grit self-adhesive paper is intended for final smoothing before paint or for reducing a dust nib between coats, once shaping is already complete. A rigid reusable backing keeps the abrasive level over the work instead of letting an unsupported strip fold around the defect.

  • The 5 mm and 10 mm formats accompany a 25 mm pad, all with a 2.5 mm profile.
  • Green colouring and the printed 1500 remain with the tool when spent paper is replaced.
  • Trim the abrasive with a hobby knife before peeling it onto the required backing.
  • The narrowest pad reaches recessed details; the broad face covers larger flat areas.
  • Do not tap, drop or bend the acrylic pieces with excessive force.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a needle file and a sanding stick?

Needle files are steel, cut faster and hold their shape for tight spots and metal. Sanding sticks are foam or paper-backed abrasive, kinder to plastic and better for smoothing broad, flat surfaces without gouging.

Which grit should I start with on mould lines?

For plastic, start around 400 grit to knock the line back, then refine with 600–800. Coarser than 400 leaves scratches you then have to chase out, so only go lower for resin flash or heavy work.

Should I file wet or dry?

Wet sanding with a drop of water reduces dust and clogging and gives a finer finish, which matters on resin where the dust is best not inhaled. Dry filing is fine for quick metal work and steel needle files.

How do I stop a file clogging with plastic or resin?

Brush it out with a stiff brass brush along the cut direction. For sanding sticks, tap them clean often. Clogged abrasive stops cutting and starts burnishing, which just polishes the high spots rather than removing them.
