Product overview

Apoxie Paste is a spreadable two-part epoxy for bonding, coating, sealing and filling where a sculpting putty would be too stiff. The khaki paste has a batter-like consistency: it can be stirred, spread thick or thin with a tool or craft stick, and tends to remain where it is placed. This 1 fl oz pack contains separate Part A and Part B tubes. The mixed paste offers 1–3 hours of working time and cures to a hard, durable semi-gloss finish. Thin applications remain slightly translucent, making it useful as a surface coat, adhesive layer or texture medium rather than a material for holding sculpted forms.

  • Spread the mixed paste with a tool or craft stick; its thick consistency gives some self-levelling while helping it stay in position.
  • Smooth and remove fresh residue with water or Aves Finishing Solution.
  • Pigments can be mixed into the paste, although Aves notes that added colourants may alter its consistency.
  • It can be applied over foam to form a hard surface coat, and Aves states that the paste does not eat foam.
  • Fresh paste adheres to previously cured material, allowing work to be built up in stages.
  • The cured surface can be sanded and painted.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between Green Stuff and Milliput-type putties?

Green Stuff is flexible and springy, holding fine sculpted detail like cloth and cabling. Milliput-type putties are harder-setting and sand smooth once cured, which makes them better for gap-filling and surfaces you want to blend flat. Many sculptors mix the two.

How do I stop epoxy putty sticking to my tools and fingers?

Keep a little water on the tool and your fingertips as a release; the putty won't grab a wet surface. Work in good light and let very tacky putty firm up for a few minutes before shaping fine detail.

How do I get the mixing ratio right?

Most epoxy putties cure at a 1:1 mix of the two parts by volume, kneaded until the colour is fully even with no streaks. Under-mixing leaves soft patches that never fully harden, so mix longer than feels necessary.

How do I fill a seam gap cleanly without losing nearby detail?

Press a small amount of putty into the gap, then wipe the excess back with a wet tool or a cotton bud before it cures, leaving putty only in the recess. Cleaning up wet saves sanding over detail later.
