Product overview
Six 3rd Generation acrylic colours for US Navy and Marine Corps aircraft of World War II, covering the whole wartime camouflage story. At the end of December 1940 all carrier-based aircraft were ordered Light Grey overall; in August 1941 the upper surfaces of carrier aircraft of the Battle Force of the Pacific Fleet went Blue-Grey, the lower areas staying Light Grey; by February 1942 all carrier and shore-based aircraft wore the Blue-Grey/Light Grey scheme. January 1943 brought the tri-colour scheme of Sea Blue, Intermediate Blue and Insignia White; fighters were simplified to Deep Sea Blue overall in mid-March 1944, an order extended to all carrier-based aircraft in June 1944 (effectively October 1944) and valid until the mid-1950s.
Set contains (6 × 17 ml): AK11866 M-485 Light Grey (Light Gull Grey FS 16440), AK11865 M-485 Blue-Grey, AK11190 Sea Blue (Dark Sea Blue), AK11864 Deep Sea Blue, AK11341 Intermediate Blue (Ocean Gray FS 35164), AK11868 Insignia White (FS 17875)
Contains all four colours of the Late War set (AK11730) — Insignia White, Intermediate Blue, Sea Blue and Deep Sea Blue; the smaller box is the early-1943-onwards subset of this one
Two of the six — M-485 Light Grey and Insignia White — also appear in the Atlantic ASW set (AK11731)
Matt finish; acrylic colours for brush, and for airbrush dilute with water or AK11500 thinner
The box carries AK's printed "Scale Reduction Factor" mark, as on the rest of the 3GEN AIR range
Made by AK Interactive S.L. in Logroño, Spain

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
