Product overview
Six 3rd Generation acrylic colours for RAF Coastal Command (CC) and Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm (FAA) aircraft of World War II, built around the Temperate Sea Scheme adopted in 1939. Dark Slate Grey and Extra Dark Sea Grey are the scheme's standard upper-surface colours; the four underside colours changed as the war went on, and the box covers each phase. From February 1943, Extra Dark Sea Grey was specified as the single upper-surface colour for most RAF aircraft on coastal duties — the Fleet Air Arm made the same switch after the war.
Set contains (6 × 17 ml): AK11844 RAF Sky, AK11848 RAF Sky Grey, AK11849 RAF Dark Slate Grey, AK11850 RAF Extra Dark Sea Grey, AK11868 Insignia White (FS 17875), AK11029 Black
The underside colours follow the scheme's wartime changes: Sky Grey (1939 to September 1940), Sky (from September 1940 on FAA aircraft and part of the CC torpedo bombers and long-range fighters), Black instead of Sky for night operations on the same aircraft groups, and Insignia White for anti-submarine aircraft of the FAA and CC
Of the six, only RAF Sky also appears in the master set AK11723 WWII RAF Aircraft Colors — the maritime greys, Insignia White and Black are not covered elsewhere in AK's RAF run
Matt finish; acrylic colours for brush, and for airbrush dilute with water or AK11500 thinner
The box carries AK's printed "Scale Reduction Factor" mark, as on the rest of the 3GEN AIR range

Notes · Q & A
What's the difference between a paint and a wash?+
Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.
Can I use these paints in an airbrush?+
Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.
Do I need a primer?+
Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
