Product overview

Positioned between the base colour and the final acrylic topcoat, AK088 Worn Effects is a 35 ml odourless acrylic fluid for controlled paint scratches and chipped wear. It replaces the hairspray stage of the technique: water later loosens selected areas of the touch-dry upper paint, exposing the colour prepared underneath.

  • Paint the model in the shade that should remain visible inside the damage.
  • Apply a generous layer of Worn Effects by brush or airbrush.
  • Cover it with acrylic paint and wait until that outer coat is touch-dry.
  • Dampen the area with water, then work scratches using tweezers, a toothpick or a brush.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
