AK Interactive Total Weathering Effects Set (AK9751)

Everything you need to start weathering — ten enamels, two brushes and a guide in one case.

Why this set

  • Ten 35 ml enamels covering the core weathering jobs — streaks, grime, rust, fuel, engine oil, wet effects, moss and dust — plus White Spirit to thin and blend.
  • Long working time. Enamels stay adjustable for minutes, so you can soften, redirect or wipe an effect back long after fast-drying acrylics would have locked in a hard edge.
  • Two brushes included (round for drawing, flat for blending) so solvent stays off your good sable brushes.
  • Printed step-by-step guide if enamel weathering is new to you.
  • One fitted storage case instead of ten loose bottles rolling around the bench.

About the set

A clean paint job can look sharp, but it can also look untouched. This set adds the dirt, runoff, rust and grime that panel lining alone can't give you. Streaking grime creates directional dirt marks and vertical staining across flat plates and panels, while the deposits, oils and wet effects add fuel residue, engine grime, moss and dust where a subject would realistically pick them up.

It's an all-round starter kit that suits armour and AFVs, aircraft, cars and civil subjects, sci-fi and Gunpla builds, dioramas, figures and trains. Enamel weathering is forgiving because you have time to work the effect — build it in gentle layers rather than nailing it in one pass.

How to get the best results

  1. Seal your base coat first. A gloss or satin varnish over acrylic protects it — enamel and White Spirit can lift an unsealed undercoat, and a smooth coat gives a longer blending window.
  2. Draw the streaks. With the round brush, add thin irregular vertical lines from raised details — bolts, rivets, vents, panel tops.
  3. Let it flash, then soften. Leave it around 10 minutes, then drag the flat brush lightly dampened in White Spirit downward to blend the lines into natural runoff.
  4. Build in layers. A light pass sets the tone; a second adds stronger streaks around detail; a third pools grime lower down.
  5. Fix mistakes while wet. A cotton bud with a little White Spirit erases anything you're not happy with. Always work in a ventilated space.

Worth knowing

  • These are solvent-based enamels — they need a sealed undercoat and good ventilation. If you specifically want water-cleanup acrylics, this isn't the range for you.
  • The current Streaking Grime formula looks slightly green in the bottle but dries primarily brown — that's normal, not a fault.
  • This is an all-rounder starter case. If you already own several of these effects as singles, expect some overlap.
