Product overview

Dry Mud is an orange-brown acrylic weathering gouache for caked dry mud and clay-soil effects, 20 ml to a metal tube. It’s the colour for splatter up the flanks, clogged running gear and the crusted dirt that dries hard in wheel wells and recesses. As a water-based gouache it dries matt, and tap water re-opens it after it has set for more blending or clean removal.

  • Dilute or blend it with tap water; a wet brush lifts it again once dry.
  • Dries to an opaque, matt film in an orange-brown, dry-clay tone.
  • Suits acrylic, oil and enamel paint, plus plastic, paper and cardboard.

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
