Product overview

Desert Dust is a pale sand-toned enamel liquid pigment for desert soils and the fine dust that cakes onto vehicles and ships working across dry lands. A liquid pigment bound in enamel, not a powder, you paint it on undiluted; it’s self-fixing, drying hard on its own and taking no separate fixer.

  • Thin it to a veil with White Spirit, blend it into neighbouring tones while wet, and wet a set patch back down when you want to reshape it.
  • It dries flat and chalk-matt in a bleached sand shade.
  • Finish by dusting dry pigment onto the set surface for a thicker layer of caked dust.

Notes · Q & A

What's the difference between a paint and a wash?

Paints are opaque colour for coverage; washes are thin, pigmented fluids that flow into recesses to add shading and depth. Most painters use both.

Can I use these paints in an airbrush?

Many acrylics can be thinned for airbrushing — check the product description; ranges marked "Air" or "airbrush-ready" work straight from the bottle.

Do I need a primer?

Yes for bare plastic, resin or metal — primer gives paint a surface to grip and prevents chipping.
